Suggested Itinerary
Day 1: Check-in – Mbale City, Sipi, or Riverline Resort
Upon arrival, settle into your accommodation in Mbale, Sipi, or Bududa Village at River Line Resort near the starting point. Rest, recharge, and enjoy a relaxing evening with dinner, followed by a briefing about the upcoming hiking adventure to prepare you for the journey ahead.
Day 2: Bushiyi Gate to Dubi Rest Camp (3563m ASL)
After breakfast, your adventure begins at the Bushiyi office (Uganda Wildlife Authority). Trek through primary and secondary forests, immersing yourself in the sights and sounds of the mountain. Pause at Shiloko Cave for lunch before continuing to Dubi Rest Camp. Enjoy tea or coffee, a refreshing sunset view, and a cozy dinner by the campfire.

Day 3: Dubi Rest Camp to Wagagai Peak (4321m ASL) and back
Summit day! Ascend from Dubi Rest Camp to Wagagai Peak, Uganda’s highest point on Mountain Elgon. Experience the shift from montane forest to moorland, with sweeping views of Jackson Peak, Koitobos & Sudek peaks, Suam Gorge, and the massive Caldera. After soaking in the awe-inspiring scenery, descend back to Dubi Rest Camp for lunch or an overnight stay.

Day 4: Mwongogo Cave to Kajeri/Tutum Cave
Trek across the Caldera, taking in the stunning vistas of Mubiny Peaks and Simu River Valley. Reach Kajeri Rest Camp for lunch, and decide whether to continue to Tutum Cave or spend the night at Kajeri. The choice depends on your pace and physical condition, offering flexibility while exploring this spectacular terrain.

Day 5: Descent to Sipi Gate – Exit Day
Conclude your trek with a descent along the Sipi trail to the Bushiyi Ranger post and Sipi Gate. Sign out, say goodbye to your guides, porters, and chef, and either continue to Sipi village or onward to your next adventure. Reflect on the triumph of completing a 5-day journey across one of Uganda’s most iconic mountains and the extraordinary landscapes you’ve experienced.
