How long does it take to get to Sipi Falls

The Sipi Falls are located in Eastern Uganda, Kaphorwa district approximately 280 kilometers from Kampala. The drive will take you about 4 to 5 hours. The Sipi Falls lie on the edge of Mount Elgon National Park near the Kenyan Border.

 

How the name came into existence

The name Sipi was derived from the traditional plant called “sosurowet” (a wild banana) that grows on the banks of the river (called “Sep” in Kubsabiny). The local people use this plant to treat fevers and measles among themselves. During your Siip Falls hike, you will encounter this wild banana trees.

The Sipi Falls have recently become a head-turner for both foreign and local tourists. The misty fog is created as the water drops with great strength and deep rumbling.
