Why This Name Sipi?

The name ‘Sipi’ is derived from the local plant called “sosurowet” (a wild banana) that grows on the banks of River Sipi. It is called “Sep” in Kubsabiny, the local language. The plant is known for its medicinal properties. Local people use the parts of sosurowet plant to treat fevers and measles. During the hike to Sipi Falls from Kampala, you will encounter these wild banana trees on the way.  

 

How long does it take to get to Sipi Falls?

In the rugged terrain of Eastern Uganda, Sipi Falls, a combination of three waterfalls, is a part of the Kapchorwa district in the Sipi village, approximately 280 kilometers from Kampala.
